Roberta “Bobbi” Gibb (Nov. 2, 1942 – )
The first woman to have run the entire Boston Marathon in 1966 despite attempts to physically stop her. She finished in 3 hours, 21 minutes and 40 seconds, ahead of two-thirds of the pack, and received great commendation for her triumph. She is recognized by the Boston Athletic Association as the pre-sanctioned era women’s winner in 1966, 1967 and 1968. It was not until 1972 that women were officially allowed to run the Marathon.
