Georgia O’Keeffe (Nov. 15, 1887 – Mar. 6, 1986)
An American artist, who is best known for her paintings of enlarged flowers, New York skyscrapers and New Mexico landscapes. O’Keeffe is recognized as the “Mother of American Modernism”. In 1943, she became the first female artist to have a retrospective of her work in MoMA. In 1977 O’Keeffe was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and in 1985 she was awarded the National Medal of Arts.
