(Oct. 25, 1900 – April 13, 1978) A Nigerian teacher, political campaignerand women’s rights activist. Ransome-Kuti founded the Egba – Abeokuta Women’s Union. She organized workshops for illiterate market women and continued to campaign against taxes and price controls. Due to Ransome-Kuti’s political activism, she was describedas the doyen of female rights in Nigeria, and also regarded as “The Mother of Africa”.
