Fairuz (Nov. 21, 1934 – )
A Lebanese singer, among the most admired and respected living singers in the Arab world. Nouhad Wadie’ Haddad, widely known as Fairuz, describes in her songs the beauty of Lebanon and its yearning for peace and freedom. In 1969, her songs were banned in Lebanon for six months since she refused to sing at a private concert in honor of the Algerian President. Also known as “Ambassador to the Stars” and the “Jewel of Lebanon”.
