Eileen Collins (Nov. 19, 1956 – )
A retired NASA astronaut and a US Air Force colonel. Collins was one of four women chosen for undergraduate pilot training at Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma. In 1989, she became the second female pilot to attend the US Air Force Test Pilot School. In the 90’s, Collins became the first female pilot and the first female commander of a Space Shuttle. She was awarded several medals for her outstanding and pioneering work.
